Seeding Near the Clinton in Shelby
Hydroseeding in Shelby Township often comes with a river view. The Clinton River drains the township on its way to Lake St. Clair, and the valley it cut through the west side gives Shelby more rolling ground than its flat neighbors to the south. Yards that drop toward the river or a side ravine need erosion control first and lawn second.
Parks that show the terrain
Riverbend Park covers 600 acres with its main entrance at 22 Mile and Shelby Road, and Yates Cider Mill still runs on water power beside the Clinton. Stony Creek Metropark reaches a small corner of the township too. The wooded slopes in those parks are the same kind of ground many nearby homes are built on, and they shed water the same way.
What we do on a ravine-edge lot
We keep heavy equipment back from the slope edge, direct downspouts and grading away from the drop, and protect the ravine face itself with stapled erosion control blanket, or with bonded fiber matrix where the pitch is too awkward to roll fabric down. The flat yard above gets regular hydroseed. A silt fence at the top of the slope keeps runoff from the work area off the bank until grass is in.
Steady growth
The township grew from 65,159 people in 2000 to 79,408 in 2020 and is often described as one of the fastest-growing communities in Metro Detroit. Much of that is new housing off Van Dyke and Hall Road, where we see builder-graded lots that need topsoil and seed.
Trails and rights-of-way
The 23.7-mile Macomb Orchard Trail passes partly through Shelby and links to the Clinton River Trail. Utility and trail work along corridors like that leaves long disturbed strips; hydroseeding is a quick way to cover them.
Permits

Shelby Township Questions
My backyard drops into a ravine. Can you seed the slope?
Yes. The ravine face is covered with stapled blanket, or bonded fiber matrix where rolling fabric is impractical, and our machines stay well back from the edge.
Why put silt fence at the top of a slope?
It stops runoff from the freshly worked yard from cutting down the bank before the grass grows in.
Do you work on new homes off Hall Road and Van Dyke?
Yes. Topsoil, fine grading and hydroseeding for new lots is a large part of our Shelby work.
Can a bank above the river be planted with something besides lawn?
Yes. A no-mow or native mix often holds a steep bank better than turf.
